Deniz Şengenç Tunca

From the ants on the ground to the stars in the sky, I believe everything is valuable. I believe every story deserves to be told.

From the storied halls of Bilgi University, where she steeped herself in the currents of Sociology, Deniz Şengenç Tunca emerged, her spirit already attuned to the resonance of human narratives. Oral histories became her early canvas, each interview a brushstroke in her understanding of the collective soul. A childhood epiphany, sparked by the joyous flicker of smiles captured through a lens in bustling cafes, revealed the camera as her instrument of connection. Believing deeply that every life held a story waiting to be unfurled, she charted a course as a weaver of tales, bringing together the human heart and its whispered histories. Even as an undergraduate, the stage beckoned, offering her a space to explore the performative arts. She apprenticed under the masterful Genco Erkal, lending her vision to "Kerem Gibi," and crafted trailers that breathed life into theatrical dreams. The digital realm called, and she honed her skills at the New York Film Academy, while simultaneously lending her expertise to the archival efforts of vital non-governmental organizations. The international stage recognized her discerning eye as she served on the jury of the Porto Femme Film Festival, representing the Flying Broom Association. As a media representative for the 22nd Women's Film Festival, and a steadfast supporter of women-centric projects, her commitment to amplifying female voices shone brightly. Her directorial vision manifested in two short films and a feature-length documentary, "Yürümek (The Walkers)," which premiered at the prestigious 50th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Her mastery of visual storytelling was further affirmed when her documentary, "Katman," earned her acclaim at the Rovereto International Festival of Archeological Cinema, Italy, as its Director of Cinematography. Thus, Deniz Şengenç Tunca, a storyteller, filmmaker, and advocate, paints her life with the vibrant hues of human experience. In 2020, she unfurled Mareliber, a venture born from her spirit as a woman entrepreneur. By 2021, in collaboration with Zehra İpşiroğlu, she birthed 'Untold Stories,' a video exhibition, and 'Confrontation,' a theatrical play, both woven within the tapestry of Mareliber. In 2023, Tunca assumed the mantle of producer and director for 'Mnemosyne: A Genclik Park Documentary.' She holds dear the delicate dance of existence, from the earthbound ant to the celestial stars. She believes that every narrative, no matter how faint, deserves its voice.
